According to an August 2021 survey, 40 percent of Black respondents considered social media to have a negative effect on people like themselves, while around a quarter of Black Americans cited a positive impact. In comparison, 56 percent of white respondents reported thinking social media had a negative impact on people like themselves, and only 18 percent cited a positive impact.
