Share of wheat imports in Egypt 2020-2022, by country

In 2022, Egypt imported 86.7 percent of its wheat from six countries. France was Egypt's leading wheat partner, with 27 percent of the grain's total imports. Ukraine followed with around 25 percent of the wheat imports. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has affected the inflow of one of the country's most important crops. For instance, Russia was the main exporter of wheat to Egypt before the war, however, the share of wheat from Russia dropped significantly in 2022. Notably, Egypt is among the largest wheat importers in the world.
