According to a 2023 study, increasing the solar thermal collector area is one of the key components that requires the largest growth to achieve the 1.5 degrees Celsius target by 2050. To reach this goal, this energy sector component needs to see an annual growth of 3,882 million square meters between 2023 and 2050, up from just 585 million square meters between 2020 and 2022. The study indicates that only six out of the 24 energy components surveyed are on track to fulfill their part in keeping global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
