The majority of consumers in Japan purchased frozen and retort foods of private brands regularly as revealed in a survey conducted in November 2021. While almost 49 percent of respondents stated that their purchase decisions depended on the products, more than ten percent claimed to mostly only buy private-label branded convenience foods.
Private labels are growing popular at Japanese retailers, with convenience stores, in particular, profiting from the sales of store brand snack foods.
