Annual number of credit card transactions in Turkey 2012-2022, per capita
Turkish consumers performed roughly 105 credit card payments per capita in 2022, a sizable increase from 2021. This according to estimates based off credit card figures from the country's central bank. Notable for Turkey is the significant increase of nearly 500 million transactions between 2018 and 2019 - a potential indicator of Turkish consumer moving away from cash to more digital ways of paying. Indeed, COVID-19 led to a significant change in Turkish payment behavior, as credit cards became a much more popular POS payment method.
