As of 2023, Nigeria was the West African country with the largest natural gas reserves. That year, the country had proven gas reserves amounting to over 5.9 trillion standard cubic meters. Cameroon was another main country in the sub-region in natural gas reserves, as its proven reserves in the fossil fuel reached 173 billion standard cubic meters. In 2021, Africa had total natural gas reserves of 625 trillion cubic feet.
