A study looking at statehouse reporters in the United States found that full-time employees (including those who work full-time only during legislative sessions) accounted for the majority of all statehouse reporters in 2022, at 48 percent. This marked a decrease from the 57 percent recorded in 2014. Meanwhile, the share of statehouse journalists working part time grew by 10 percent during the same time period. Fewer full-time reporters results in less in-depth coverage of statehouse events and issues.
