In 2021, gas accounted for approximately 38.2 percent of the European Union's chemical industry energy consumption. Electricity was the second most-used energy source in the industry, with a share of around 28 percent. That year, the energy consumption of the EU's chemical industry neared 600 terawatt-hours.
