Use of a virtual private network (VPN) is more prevalent among younger Russians. Of those aged between 18 and 24 years, almost a quarter of survey respondents stated that they used a VPN regularly in March 2024. VPN services were increasingly used in Russia following the restrictions placed on social media and foreign media sites in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Comparatively, less than 10 percent of those aged 55 years and older in Russia resorted to a VPN regularly or sometimes.
