Sheep population in South Africa 2010-2022
South Africa's sheep stock amounted to 21.43 million heads in 2022. This was a drop of around 30,000 heads compared to the previous year. During the period observed, the sheep population peaked in 2013 at around 24.53 million heads. Overall, the number of sheep in the country has generally declined since 2010. As of 2022, some 4.81 million heads of sheep were slaughtered in South Africa.
