In 2021, the majority hotels in Portugal were owned by domestic investors across all company types in the country's hotel property market. However, this was less pronounced among institutional investors. In that case, 38 percent of hotels were owned by companies of this type but which were based in other countries.

Because international investment is usually done through national subsidiaries, the ultimate owner or holding company was considered for the study.
