Female contestants on the show Married at First Sight UK were almost twice as likely to receive abusive tweets than their male counterparts. According to a study conducted in October 2021, 26 percent of tweets using the hashtag #MAFSUK and mentioning the names of female contestants contained abusive language. In comparison, 14 percent of tweets using this hashtag and mentioning male contestants were considered abusive.

According to the source: "We collected 48,364 tweets through Twitter’s public API which used the hashtag #MAFSUK, from September 28th to October 5th. This period covered the airing of the last 4 episodes, during which time couples who had remained in the ‘experiment’ had their final dates and decided whether to continue their relationships outside of the show or not, concluding with a reunion episode which brought back all those who had participated in the series to discuss their time on the show."
