Ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) services have been steadily growing in popularity in the European market since 2016. Revenue from AVOD services has been increasing at a growing rate from year to year as well; from 2016 to 2017, AVOD revenue increased by about 700 million euros. This became an increase of nearly 1 billion euros from one year to the next between 2019 to 2021, reaching an estimated value of over 6.7 billion euros.
