Ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) was the most popular source of free video streaming among American video and television viewers as of 2021, viewed by nearly half of those surveyed. Among different AVOD services, YouTube and The Roku Channel were the most popular. Free ad-supported television (FAST) was the second most popular source of free streaming content, while pirated content was watched by nearly one quarter of viewers.
