In 2021, six Latin American countries had over 81 percent of their female entrepreneurs starting a business because there were no better options. Overall, in the region, women had a higher necessity-driven entrepreneurship rate than men. In Mexico, the necessity-driven entrepreneurship rate reached nearly 89 percent for women, and 81.3 percent for men. In Costa Rica, the share of female necessity-driven entrepreneurs was almost double that of men.
