Long duration energy storage (LDES) technologies that provide more than 24-hour flexibility are forecast to grow in the near future, to reach around 40 percent of the cumulative installed capacity in 2040. Meanwhile, 8-to-24-hour flexibility systems would account for the remaining 60 percent of the installed capacity that year, down from an estimated share of 80 percent in 2030.
