An increasing number of families in Italy resort to home caregivers to assist their elderly members. According to a survey carried out among a sample of these households, the expenditure on these professionals might eat up a large part of the family budget. This statistic sheds light on the most common reasons people have to believe they will not be able to afford a senior caregiver in the future. About one third of the respondents foresee an increasing need for assistance as they grow old, and thus a more considerable expenditure they might not be able to afford.
On average, Italian families spend 1.2 thousand euros per month on one elderly caregiver, the highest figure among expenses for home care professionals.
