According to a 2020 UN Women survey, approximately half of the respondents in India concurred that most women would be safe in public space, at 51 percent of female and 47 percent of male respondents. On the other hand, respectively 11 and 23 percent of female and male respondents believed that most Indian women would likely suffer from physical, mental, or emotional harm in public.
