Coal accounted for nearly 61 percent of China's electricity generation in 2023. In the period of consideration, figures net decreased and peaked at 81 percent in 2007. However, due to the rise in power demand, actual coal electricity production volume increased in the same time period and reached a high of more than 5,700 terawatt hours in 2023.
