In 2022, acquittals for police officers convicted of brutality under Section 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Russia were issued in nearly five percent of cases. That was 24 times more often than the share of such verdicts for all articles of the Criminal Code. Almost 70 percent of the convicts from national enforcement authorities avoided a real sentence by being given a suspended sentence or fine.

*Section 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation concerns a) the use of violence or the threat of its use; 2) the use of arms or special means; 3) with the infliction of grave consequences by national enforcement authorities against civilians.
The percentages were calculated manually by subdividing the number of convicted persons by court decisions.
"Incarceration / Other" figures were derived by deducting all other options from 100 percent.
