According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation of India, the total share of elderly persons living in a household showed a marginal increase in the past decade. In 2001, the share of one aged person living in the household was approximately 21 percent. Similarly, the share of one aged person living in a household in 2011 was closer to 22 percent.
