Nearly 57.5 percent of internet users aged 16-64 years in Kenya used social media platforms to keep in touch with family and friends, according to a survey conducted in the third quarter of 2023. About 45.3 percent of the respondents cited reading news stories as a reason for using the channels. Around 36.4 percent mentioned using social media for seeing what's being talked about, while 35.7 percent adopted the tools for reading news stories. Lastly, finding content from brands and filling spare time were the least cited reasons by the respondents, indicated by 23.6 percent and 20.5 percent of the respondents, respectively.
