Kenya registered nearly 7,000 passenger flight landings in the country's main airports in December 2021. This was the highest number since March 2020, when the first impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic were felt in the Kenyan aviation industry. Airport traffic in the country dramatically reduced in the second quarter of 2020. During this period, Kenya imposed measures to curb the coronavirus spread, which included the suspension of international flights and airports closing. From July that year, the number of landings slowly started increasing, mostly boosted by domestic flights. The trend remained until the end of 2021, except for an interruption in April, when an upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases led to new flight restrictions.
