The supply chain and transport sector was the industry sector most at risk from disruptions posed by biodiversity and nature loss in cities as of 2022. Disruptions to economic activities resulting from nature and biodiversity loss was estimated to affect a significant share of the GDP attributable to cities as urban centers are home to many downstream sectors and activities including transport, utilities, and retail.

The source states: "Disruption risk was calculated for 19 industry sectors as classified by the World Economic Forum and their estimated contributions to citiesā GDP. Sectors were assigned disruption risk scores out of 100 based on the average number (up to 85%) of business operations disrupted by up to 27 drivers of environmental change through their impact on natural capital assets (through the form of up to 21 ecosystem services). A sector with over 80% of its production processes materially disrupted is considered āHighā risk; over 55% is āModerateā risk; and less than 55% is āLowā risk."
