According to a 2022 survey on carbon neutrality conducted in the United States, there were significant differences in opinion regarding the government's role in energy policy based on the political leanings of respondents. For example, survey results show that 19 percent of Democratic leaning survey participants supported government encouragement of oil and gas drilling. A larger share of Republican leaning respondents, 51 percent, supported such government action.
