As of 2018, forests comprised 38 percent of the Earth's habitable land. In 1700 and 1800, forests still comprised at lest half of the Earth's habitable land, however, since then figures have been in continuous decline. Deforestation due to agricultural activity is the main threat to trees worldwide.
