As of 2022, Ethiopia was among the countries in Africa with the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The country had nine sites, of which eight were in the cultural category. These included the Konso Cultural Landscape and the Rock-Hewn Churches, Lalibela. Moreover, the country had one natural UNESCO World Heritage site, the Simien National Park.
