During a survey conducted less than two weeks before the 94th Academy Awards ceremony – which took place on March 27, 2022 – about two-thirds of responding adults in the United States said they had seen, read, or heard something about the 2021 version of "West Side Story." Around 54 percent of respondents were aware of "Dune." These two productions were also the nominees for Best Picture at the 94th Oscars with the highest box office revenues. Meanwhile, less than half of the interviewees knew about the other eight nominees. Approximately 22 percent of respondents were aware of "CODA," which ended up winning the award later that month.
