Dependence on energy imports in the European Union was 62.5 percent in 2022. Three Central and Eastern European countries exceeded this value - Hungary, Slovakia, and Lithuania. The energy import dependency rate of Lithuania was 72.43 percent. The lowest rate was recorded in Estonia - 6.2 percent.
Energy imports dependency in selected Central and Eastern European countries between 2000 and 2022
The indicator shows the share of total energy needs of a country met by imports from other countries. It is calculated from energy balances as net imports divided by the gross available energy. Energy dependence = (imports – exports) / gross available energy.
