In 2022, the Dominican Republic was the Latin American country that depended the most on coal to produce electricity, with almost 28 percent of its power production derived from this fossil fuel. Ranking second was Guatemala, with a share of 26.4 percent. Nevertheless, coal did not contribute to the power mix of most Latin American and Caribbean countries that year.
