Types of Instagram accounts followed by Russians 2022
Among the main types of accounts Russians used to follow on Instagram before March 2022, 77 percent of respondents listed accounts of their friends. Over half of respondents also followed Russian influencers, brands, and media accounts. Instagram was banned on March 14, 2022 after Meta was declared an extremist organization by a Moscow court. The daily population reach of Instagram dropped to 20 percent in the week after the ruling.
