Daimler Truck's revenue by region 2020-2021

In the 2021 fiscal year, the total revenue of Daimler Truck amounted to over 39.7 billion euros. Some 16.2 billion euros of this revenue was generated by its North American operations.

In December 2021, Daimler Truck was spun off the Daimler Group and was listed as an independent company on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. This division was one of the largest spin-offs to occur in Germany. Daimler Truck is one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, with over 40 manufacturing facilities and approximately 100,000 employees worldwide.

Daimler Truck’s key markets

The commercial vehicles business of Daimler Truck sold approximately 455,500 vehicles in the 2021 fiscal year. Over the same year, the key markets for the company were North America and Asia, with 161,800 and 111,400 units of sales, respectively. Daimler Truck aims to reach the government’s zero-emission standards in transportation while securing high profitability for the company. However, it will take some time to put this strategy into practice since electric commercial vehicles are expensive due to their steep energy demand compared to conventional counterparts. Consequently, Daimler Truck spent around 1.6 billion euros on its research and development activities to reduce the cost of energy and improve its battery technology.

Challenges from European competitors

Daimler truck is not the only manufacturer that follows an eco-friendly approach. Worldwide competitors of the company, the Sweden-based Volvo Group and fellow German truck manufacturer Volkswagen AG, have also been attempting to electrify their fleet. In particular, Volvo launched its brand-new electric truck series in 2020. Since then, the Volvo Group has seen a considerable increase in its truck order intake, amounting to just under 262,900 units of commercial vehicles in the 2021 fiscal year.
