In 2021, nearly 46 percent of Russia's trade revenue was generated from exports to and imports from the countries that had not supported the sanctions on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine that started in February 2022. This meant that the remaining share of around 54 percent came from trade with the 48 countries that sanctioned Russia, including members of the European Union (EU), the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Japan, among others.

The source calculated the share of Russia's trade revenue with all countries but the 48 that the Russian government claimed "unfriendly" due to their response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These included all members of the European Union (EU), the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Japan, among others, as of April 2022.
