The mental healthcare sector in China enjoyed a boom in the past decade. With the ever-growing number of psychiatric hospitals and beds, the income and expenditure of the sector also increased dramatically. In 2021, Chinese psychiatric hospitals had a total expenditure of almost 81 billion yuan, representing a hike of almost 400 percent from 2010.
