From January 2022 to August 2023, a high number of unaccompanied minors from Ukraine arrived in Sweden through the European Union's Temporary Protection Directive. During this period, 872 unaccompanied minors from Ukraine applied for asylum in Sweden. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which started at the end of February 2022, a high number of people sought refuge in other European countries. The European Union has activated a directive in order to simplify the process of asylum for refugees from Ukraine in other European countries.
