When surveyed at the end of 2021 in view of the next presidential elections, two-thirds of French people registered on the electoral lists said they were in favor of the application of a majority judgment voting system for the presidential elections. The most enthusiastic about this change in voting system were 18-24 year olds, followed by 50-64 year olds.
In France, the current voting system for presidential elections is the two round system, in which the voter must choose one of several candidates and the number of votes received by each candidate is counted. On the other hand, the majority judgment voting, implemented for example during the Primaire Populaire of January 2022, is a method of voting by values, according to which the voter evaluates all the candidates independently of each other, by giving them a mention on a scale that goes from "Excellent" to "To be rejected". The winner is determined by the median rather than the average.
