Poverty headcount ratio in Africa 2010-2019, by region
In 2019, Central Africa reflected the highest poverty ratio in Africa with over 59 percent of the population living below the line of poverty. The rate had sunk by over seven percent since 2010. In contrast, the Northern African region showed a consistently low poverty ratio of around two percent from 2010 to 2019, despite a slight rise in 2015. Western Africa was the region that displayed the best performance in reducing poverty, as the ratio dropped from nearly half the population in 2010 to less than 35 percent in 2019.
