The global sales value of art and collectibles non-fungible tokens (NFTs) decreased significantly in 2023 compared to the previous year. Overall, sales of NFT collectibles totaled around 6.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, denoting a 64.5 percent drop from 2022. Over the same period, the value of art-related NFT transactions declined by 50.6 percent, amounting to roughly 1.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.

The art and collectibles segments are defined as follows:
Art: – Art-related NFTs and collections created by artists or by generative art algorithms. NFT collections of type "10,000" were not considered as art NFTs but as collectibles.
Collectibles: NFT projects whose main function is to be collected. These include avatars or profile pictures (PFP) and any type of digital object. Such collectible assets can have many uses, including being part of a community or being used for video games.
