As of December 2023, banks in Japan had approved more than 79 thousand applications for a change of terms and conditions of housing loans since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. This represented an increase from around 77 thousand three months earlier.

As of December 2023, the statistic includes figures of nine major banks (Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Trust & Banking, MUFG Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust & Banking, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Resona Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, SBI Shinsei Bank, and Aozora Bank), 100 regional banks (regional banks I, regional banks II, and Saitama Resona Bank), and 76 other domestically licensed banks, branches of foreign banks, and the Resolution and Collection Corporation.
