Therefore, the number of MRI scanners in the Netherlands reached a peak in 2021 with 14.94 scanners per one million inhabitants. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic/electromagnetic fields combined with an induced resonance effect of hydrogen atoms. The result is a visualization of internal organs and body structures. MRI does not use x-rays or ionizing radiation which distinguishes it from CT and PET scans.
