As of June 2021, the Indian state of Maharashtra had the highest total operational distance of electric buses at 23.35 million kilometers, by far the highest among all states that operated electric buses across the country. It was followed by Telangana with 7.5 million kilometers. During the same period, there were close to one thousand electric buses used in public transport in India. The major providers of e-buses in India were Olectra Goldstone-BYD, and Tata Motors.
