A painting by Wang Meng, an important painter of the Yuan and early Ming Dynasty, was sold by the Beijing-based China Guardian Auction for an equivalent of more than 40 million U.S. dollars in 2023. As the most expensive Chinese artwork auctioned in the year, it ranked 16th among the highest-priced artworks sold at auctions globally in 2023.
