Between the first week of February 2022 and the first week of March 2022, first-time downloads of translation and language learning apps in Ukraine experienced a sudden increase. Downloads of the leading 10 translation apps grew by approximately 70 percent, while language learning app downloads grew by almost 50 percent across the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. As the Russian invasion of Ukraine entered in its third week, Ukrainian refugees downloaded more translation and language learning apps to help them communicate while fleeing.
