In 2023, the country exported over 3.5 million metric tons of the compound, with a value of nearly 923 million U.S. dollars. Ranking second was the Trinidad and Tobago, which exported some 1.53 billion U.S. dollars of methyl alcohol. That year, China was the top importing country of methanol worldwide, with an import value that amounted to 3.86 billion U.S. dollars.
