According to a 2021 study, the melting of the world’s glaciers has accelerated in recent years. Between 2000 and 2019, Alaska lost nearly 66.7 gigatons of ice per year from its glaciers. Alaska accounted for almost 25 percent of the global ice mass loss over the 20 years.
