The tourism industry in Hungary was severely affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak which led to a dramatic decrease in international guest arrivals in 2021. Consequently, only 19 thousand international arrivals were recorded at tourist accommodation establishments in January 2021. However, figures picked up over the following period and peaked at 704 thousand in August 2023.
