Most popular iOS app categories worldwide 2021, by downloads

In 2021, gaming apps for iOS devices generated almost 9.5 billion downloads from users worldwide. Tool apps were the second-most popular app category for global iPhone and iPad users, with 2.27 billion downloads. Photo and video apps saw more than two billion downloads in the examined year, while social media apps generated around 1.8 billion downloads in the same period and only ranked seventh among the most popular app categories for iOS devices.
