As of 2021, it was likely that Ghana's Free Senior High School (SHS) policy occupied the major share of the country's total expenditure, compared to other government initiatives. This policy, aimed at providing free public secondary education, was funded in the amount of 2.3 billion Ghanaian cedis (GHS), roughly 326.3 million U.S. dollars. Moreover, the GhanaCARES Program was launched to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the livelihoods of Ghanaians. A funding amount of around one billion GHS - around 141.6 million U.S. dollars - was invested into the program. These key initiatives would boost productivity and economic recovery.
