After the populous continent of Asia, Europe is home to the biggest online food delivery market globally, with a share of 13 percent of online food delivery users in 2024. It comes as no surprise that DoorDash has its eyes set on a European takeover, and it may just be on its way to achieving that. Its acquisition of Wolt - one of the most popular European food delivery brands – is testament to these ambitions. In a deal worth over eight billion U.S. dollars, DoorDash’s acquisition of Wolt was the second most valuable e-commerce acquisition as of January 2024.
