How Africa voted in the UN resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine 2022

On March 02, 2022, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution condemning Russia's war on Ukraine, demanding the withdrawal of Russian forces from the neighboring country. Of the 54 African nations, 28 voted in favor of the resolution, including Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Tunisia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya. Another 17 countries abstained from participating in the voting exercise, while no votes were recorded from eight African countries, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Morocco, and Togo. Eritrea was the only country to vote against the resolution.
Overall, 141 members of the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of the resolution. General Assembly resolutions are not binding.
